Exploring KMK’s Sheet Metal Fabrication Services
KMK offers various metal fabrication services, including tube, wire, and sheet metal. However, most of our business is centered around sheet metal fabrication.
We can work with carbon, stainless, and galvanized steel, as well as aluminum, and we even process expanded or perforated material. Most of these projects start on our 6000-watt Alpha Laser or one of our Amada turret presses. A variety of factors determine whether we laser-cut or punch the parts. Sometimes, it is simple because the part has a complex shape that we cannot perform on the turrets. Or if it requires an electrical knockout, emboss, louver, or lance and form, it must be performed on the turrets. Our turrets can also tap or countersink holes, avoiding a secondary operation if they were laser cut. Sometimes, we use a laser or punch based on machine availability.
After we cut or punch the part, those that require bending are sent to our brake department. Our Amada brake presses are all CNC-controlled for high repeatability and tight tolerances. We can do a single bend, multiple bend setups, or multiple setups with numerous bends. If you are concerned about a cut hazard or need extra stiffness, we have hem tooling to add a hem onto your part. We also have limited tool-making capabilities if you have a part that requires a unique shape, such as a large radius or shape.
If your part requires press-in nuts, studs, or standoffs, we have the equipment and experience to accommodate this. We can also spot weld or weld even the thinnest of sheet metal. Maybe your part requires some tubing or wire parts besides the sheet metal. We have you covered. If your part requires powder coating, we have that capability in-house. We can add custom packaging or assembly as well. We can install rivnuts, add labels, and add instruction sheets or hardware kits. We would love to discuss how we can help deliver this part ready for you to use for your application.

We make sheet metal units for one of our long-time customers, which especially highlights our capabilities. This unit is a battery charger for forklifts in a warehouse environment. We make a 12 gauge base for the transformers and other electronics to be mounted on. This part has mounting holes for each component and many slots for ventilation. It is bent so that it sits off the floor for airflow, and you can get a forklift under it if you want to lift or move it. We also punch the back, right, and left side panels and top panels to create an enclosure. All these parts must be punched and bent to exact specifications so that they bolt together. Several panels have louvers for airflow and electrical knockouts so the end user can wire them to a power source.
This unit is finished with a door to access the electronics and several internal brackets. There are several doors based on the controller used. We powder coat all these parts with a black texture, but we have painted units custom colors when our client requires that for a specific project. We do this enclosure in 3 different sizes based on the battery size that the customer is trying to charge. This client also has us manufacture a variety of hardware so the end user can stack these units or even mount multiple units from a floor-mounted pole. We do this project on a quarterly blanket order with flexible release dates so our client can have their inflowing parts match their sales and workflow.
