Recently, the Clinton County IL CEO Group, a local organization made up of twenty high school seniors from several of the local high schools, came to visit KMK to learn about what it takes to run a small business. The Clinton County, IL CEO program is dedicated to helping young people develop into responsible and enterprising individuals who will contribute to economic growth and sustainable local communities. KMK was delighted to host this year’s class of students and provide them with an engaging tour and opportunity to learn more about running a business first hand from our leadership.
Kirk Kassel, one of the owners of KMK, met with the students on Wednesday morning to provide them with a tour of the facility, as well as answer their questions. He provided them with a history of how he came to own KMK despite originally being an electrical engineering major, as well as how the company eventually came to be.
During the tour, the students had the opportunity to learn about the importance of having a solid professional team that has the capacity to grow and evolve with the company, and the importance of investing in this team. He discussed the various choices that were made, such as moving towards solar power for the facility and the necessity of making difficult choices, such as when KMK downsized to better accommodate their customers and their team members.
Having the students of the Clinton County IL CEO group was a delight for KMK, and the students were all wonderful guests, asking excellent and intuitive questions throughout the facility tour, such as how Kirk applied his college education to his experience at KMK, equipment purchasing, and navigating OSHA regulations. We were happy to partner with Clinton County IL CEO in order to provide this opportunity and support the education of our local school districts.
